What is DNS?

Table of Contents

Domain Name System is a protocol that is used to redirect or rewrite a domain or parts of it. One can imagine it as a telephone directory for the internet that connects IP addresses r (192.158.1.38.) and a domain name (svenskadomaner.se).

What do I use DNS for?
  • Connect your domain to your site by editing your A-mail.
  • Create a separate one on your website e.g. member page or webshop, you can add a subdomain that points to the IP address of your e-commerce or member portal.
  • If you have already built a website somewhere else or want to use your Facebook page as a website, you can connect it to your domain with a forwarding.
  • Ensure your email gets it right by reviewing your MX entries.
Do I need a DNS account?

A DNS account is a tailor-made service for users who have only registered a domain name with us and do not have a web host (DNS management is included in all our web hosts). If you have not yet decided to buy a web host, we recommend that you start with a DNS account to be able to use your domain. A DNS account allows you to manage the domain’s DNS settings via a control panel, “cPanel” where you can create new or change in existing DNS records.
